World champion and women’s 100m hurdles record holder Tobi Amusan (Nigeria) can compete again after her anti-doping rule ban was overturned.
The World Athletics Disciplinary Committee provisionally suspended the Nigerian athlete last month for giving wrong locations three times in one calendar year.
Under the World Anti-Doping Rules in Athletics, the applicable sanction for three out-of-competition doping test failures is two years, but after a re-examination of the case, the Nigerian was acquitted and she will be able to compete at the world athletics championships this month.
Tobi Amusan, 26, became Nigeria’s first world champion and world record holder in athletics with her 2022 victory in Eugene, Oregon, where she clocked 12.12 sec. She is the current World, Commonwealth and African champion in the 100m hurdles, as well as the meet record holder in those three competitions. Tobi Amusan won back-to-back Commonwealth and African titles in 2018 and 2022 in the 100m hurdles and is also a two-time African Games champion in the event. She is also the current Diamond league champion in the 100m hurdles having won the final in 12.29 sec winning back to back titles in 2022 and 2023.
