Liudmila Samsonova WTA 1000 Canadian Open

Russian tennis player Liudmila Samsonova qualified for the final of the WTA 1000 Canadian Open after defeating the 3rd-seeded Elena Rybakina (Kazakhstan) by 2-1 (1:6 6:1, 6:2) in 1:45 hours. The start of the match was delayed due to rain, which additionally heated the atmosphere on the court.

The match started perfectly for Elena Rybakina, who has two WTA 1000 title, one runner-up and one Grand Slam final this season. She won the first set by 6:1, breaking her opponent twice and gave her only one breakpoint, which later saved.

However, the second set was totally different and started with an early break for the Russian player. Elena Rybakina succeeded to return the break immediately but after that started making too many unforced errors and allowed Liudmila Samsonova to win the next five games in a row to win the set by 6:1 and equalize the score.

The third decisive set was again in the favor of the Russian tennis player, who made an early break to lead by 2:0 and kept this advantage without giving a breakpoint to her opponent. In the seventh game she recorded another break and closed the set by 6:2, thus winning the match.

In the final, Liudmila Samsonova will face Jessica Pegula (USA). This is second WTA final for the season for the 24-years-old Russian player, who already lost in February the WTA 500 Mubadala Abu Dhabi Open final to Belinda Bencic (Switzerland). Liudmila Samsonova has won four WTA titles – WTA 500 Toray Pan Pacific Open Tennis, WTA 500 Berlin Open, WTA 250 Tennis in the Land, and WTA 250 Mubadala Citi DC Open.
