Spain qualified for the semi-finals of the FIFA Women’s World Cup

Spain football world cup

The Spanish women’s nationa team qualified for the semi-finals of the FIFA Women’s World Cup after a 2-1 victory over the Netherlands.

The match was extremely contested, as in the regular time of the match the two teams exchanged a total of 12 scoring chances, and even in the 37th minute, Jennifer Hermoso sent the ball into the Netherlands’ net, but after reviewing the situation through the VAR system, the goal was disallowed.

In the 81st minute, luck was on the side of the Spanish women and referee Stephanie Frappart pointed to the penalty spot. The execution of the penalty was carried out by Mariona Caldentey, who was flawless and sent her teammates into wild joy for 1-0.

The happiness was too short-lived and the Dutch equalized in the first minute of stoppage time when Stefanie van der Gragt revived hopes of a turnover.

Thus, the match was sent to a new phase of two overtime periods of 15 minutes each. There, the Spanish women found the way to the opponent’s goal for the third time and reached the final success after Salma Celeste Paralluelo Ayingono’s goal in the 111th minute.

Mariona Caldentey was named the player of the match, but Teresa Abelleira Duenas and Jennifer Hermoso made strong match for the winners.

Thus, in the semi-finals Spain will face the winner between Japan and Sweden, who will play later today.
