The 3rd-seeded Elena Rybakina (Kazakhstan) came back delaying with one set to defeat Jennifer Brady (USA) by 2-1 (6:7, 7:6, 6:3) in the second round of the WTA 1000 Canadian Open.
The match that lasted in 2:36 hour started terribly for Elena Rybakina, who suffered a delay of 1:3 in the first set after her opponent break her serve in the third game. However, the Kazakhstani tennis player succeeeded to equalize to 4:4, returning the break and the set went into a tiebreak, which Jennifer Brady won by 7-3.
In the second set, none of the players was able to break the opponent until the 9th game, when both exchanged a break. However, the result was again equal and the set entered into a tiebreak, which Elena Rybakina won hardly by 7-5.
The decisive third set started hardly for both of the players, as Jennifer Brady received lost breakpoints in the first game and Elena Rybakina lost three breakpoints in the second game. However, both won their serve and the result was running equal until the 8th game, when the Kazakhstani tennis player succeeded to break the serve of her opponent and thus took a lead of 5:3. Elena Rybakina served for the match and although not so easy closed it with the first match point.
In the next round, Elena Rybakina will face another Amerian player – Sloane Stephens.
The 12th-seeded Belinda Bencic (Switzerland) also had a tough match in the second round, but eventually defeated Alycia Parks (USA) by 2-1 (6:3, 5:7, 6:4).
The 4th-seeded Jessica Pegula (USA) qualified for the third round after defeating Yulia Putintseva (Kazakhstan) by 2-0 (6:4, 6:4), as well as Daria Kasatkina (Russia), who eliminated her compatriot Anna Blinkova by 2-0 (6:2, 7:5).
