Zoe Hobbs broke the 100m New Zealand and Oceania record

New Zealand sprinter Zoe Hobbs recorded her first sub-11 sec time at 100m with the wind within the allowance. The 25-year-old athlete won first place at a tournament in Sydney with 10.97 sec (0.5 m/s), which is a new New Zealand and Oceania record.

Last week she clocked 10.89 sec for the New Zealand title, but the result was registered in a strong headwind.

Today, however, she scalped one-tenth of a second from her Oceania record in ideal conditions, flashing across the line well clear of 18-year-old Australian Lewis Torrie (11.21 sec) to join an exclusive worldwide sub-11 club.

“It feels so good. I had a little bit of a shock at the end of the race when I saw 10.99 flash up and I started celebrating, and then I thought, no, wait for the wind”, said Zoe Hobbs. “When I heard the time and the wind was legal, I was absolutely stoked to finally dip under the 11-second mark legally”, added the New Zealand sprinter.

Zoe Hobbs is a New Zealand athlete. She hold the current New Zealand under-19 and under-20 100m record of 11.53 s. She also holds the senior New Zealand record at 100m. At the 2022 World Indoor Championships held in mid-March in Belgrade, Serbia, Hobbs broke the Oceania indoor 60 metres record with 7.13 sec.
