Winfred Yavi won the 3,000m steeplechase gold at the Rome Diamond League

The Olympic and world champion in the 3,000m steeplechase, Winfred Yavi, “missed” the world record by only 7 hundredths of a second. The Bahraini athlete won the Rome Diamond League in 8:44.39 min. With this result, she is second in the all-time ranking of the discipline after the record holder Beatrice Chepkoech.

Winfred Yavi’s achievement is also a new continental record, personal best, tournament record and Diamond League record.

The Paris 2024 Olympics silver medalist Peruth Chemutai (Uganda) finished second with a new national record of 8:48.03 min. Olympic bronze medalist Faith Cherotich finished third in Rome with 8:57.65 min.

Winfred Yavi is a Kenyan-born Bahraini female athlete who specializes in the 3,000m steeplechase. Currently the second fastest athlete in history at the distance with a personal best of 8:44.39 min, she won the gold medal at the 2024 Summer Olympics, setting a new Olympic record.
