Ukrainian athlete Yaroslava Mahuchikh

Yaroslava Mahuchikh is a Ukrainian high jumper. In her Olympic debut, she took the bronze medal at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics. She is the gold medalist at the 2018 Youth Olympic Games and World and European champion at the U18 level. At the 2019 and 2022 World Championships, Yaroslava Mahuchikh won the silver medal, setting the new World junior record. In 2024, she improved one of the oldest world records in athletics – in the high jump, setting her personal best of 210cm. She is the World Indoor high jump champion from Belgrade 2022.

Yaroslava Mahuchikh was born on September 19, 2001, in Dnipropetrovsk, Ukraine. She started the high jump at the age of 13. At the age of 15, she won the gold medal at the 2017 IAAF World U18 Championships in Nairobi by the largest margin in World U18 Championships history with her personal best of 192 cm. The same year she also won the gold at the 2017 European Youth Olympics in Gyor, Hungary.

In 2018, Yaroslava Mahuchikh won the gold at the European U18 Championships in Gyor, Hungary, and again became Youth Olympic Games in Buenos Aires, Argentina.

In 2019, she won the silver medal at the World Championships in Doha, Qatar and a year later was the bronze medalist at the European Indoor Championships in Torun, Poland. She also has one bronze medal from the Diamond League in 2019, at the Prefontaine Classic in Palo Alto, California, the United States.

In 2020, Yaroslava Mahuchikh won two gold medals from the World Athletics Indoor Tour – Mueller Indoor Grand Prix Glasgow and Indoor Meeting – Karlsruhe.

Yaroslava Mahuchikh also won the bronze at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, which took place in 2021. She won three medals at the Diamond League events in 2021. She won the gold at the 2021 Bauhaus-Galan in Stockholm, Sweden, as well as the silver medals at the 2021 Athletissima in Lausanne, Switzerland, and the 2021 Weltklasse in Zurich, Switzerland.

She won a Diamond League trophy in 2022 and attached the unbeaten world record of 209 cm. However, during the season she won the high jump gold at the Munich European Athletics Championships and Beograd World Athletics Indoor Championships, as well as the silver at the Eugene World Athletics Championships. She won the Diamond League Final and formed as one of the top high jump athletes in the world.

In 2023, Yaroslava Mahuchikh continue dominating the event, winning the gold at the Budapest World Athletics Championships and Istanbul European Athletics Indoor Championships. Meanwhile, she won the gold at the Diamond League’s Meeting International Mohammed VI d’Athletisme de Rabat, Wanda Diamond League Xiamen, and Memorial van Damme, as well as the Diamond League’s Final at Prefontaine Classic in Eugene.

The 2024 season was the most remarkable for Yaroslava Mahuchikh, who won the gold at the Roma European Athletics Championships and the silver at the Glasgow World Athletics Indoor Championships, before triumphing at the Diamond League’s Meeting de Paris with a new world record of 210cm.
