Ugandan Peruth Chemutai won the 3,000-meter steeplechase at Tokyo 2020 Olympics. The 22-year-old athlete, who has a world silver medal in the girls, won convincingly with a new national record of 9:01.45 minutes.

The silver medalist from the 2017 World Championships in London, Courtney Frerichs (USA), won the silver at the Olympics after finishing second with 9:04.79 minutes.

The third was the world champion from Beijing 2015 and the second from the Olympics in Rio 2016 Hyvin Kiyengng (Kenya) with 9:05.39 minutes.

One of the big surprises was the seventh place of the world record holder Beatrice Chepkoech (Kenya), who finished with a result of 9:16.33 minutes.
