Therese Johaug returns for 2025 World Championships but will not compete at the 2026 Olympics

Four-time Olympic cross-country skiing champion Therese Johaug will participate in the 2025 World Championships in Trondheim (Norway), but will miss the 2026 Olympics.

In August, Therese Johaug announced that she was resuming her sports career.

“I will only start in Trondheim and then finish my career. Even if I win all the competitions, I will not participate in the Olympics”, said Therese Johaug.

Therese Johaug, 36, won gold medals at the 2010 Olympics and three times in 2022. At the Olympics in Sochi in 2014, she won silver and bronze medals. The Norwegian is also a 14-time world champion. In 2022, Therese Johaug announced her retirement from the sport.

In October 2016, she told the media that her doping test gave a positive result for the anabolic steroid “clostebol”. The athlete’s sample was taken during a pre-season competition. The Olympic champion was later banned for 18 months, missing the 2018 PyeongChang Olympics.

The World Cross Country Championships will be held in Trondheim from February 26 to March 9, 2025. The 2026 Winter Olympics are in Milan and Cortina d’Ampezzo from February 6 to 22.
