The women’s football team of Sweden won Group G of the Tokyo Olympics without losing a point so far. Thus the team is an absolute leader in the group and qualified for the quarter-finals.
The Swedish girls won by 2-0 in the match versus New Zealand with goals of Anna Anvegard and Madelen Janogy already in the first half. The win was absolutely deserved from what both teams showed on the field. Sweden had a higher ball procession, more goal attempts and more shots on goal.
In the other match of the group the USA and Australia made a goalless draw, despite the early goal of Alex Morgan, which was disallowed due to offside. The Australian side appeared more than willing to settle for a draw in the final quarter of the match.
Sweden advance to the quarter-finals with 9 pts, while the USA and Australia are second and third with 4 pts, but both also will advance for the knock-out phase. The fourth in the group remains New Zealand without winning a single point.
