Sara Sorribes Tormo won her milestone first WTA singles title in Guadalajara

Spaniard Sara Sorribes Tormo won her milestone first WTA singles title in Guadalajara, Mexico, defeating Eugenie Bouchard by 2-0 (6:2; 7:5).

The seeded by No 4 Sara Sorribes Tormo started strongly in her first final and led with 3:1. She realized a second break for 5:2, which was decisive for the outcome of the first set. The Spaniard, who is No 71 in the world rankings, wasted an advance of 3:1 in the second part, after which a lag behind 3:5. However, at the end of the set, she realized a break and returned, winning by 7:5.

“I am very proud of this success. I am happy with the way I handled the emotions. It was not easy because it was my first final”, said Sara Sorribes Tormo. “From the first point, from the first game with my serve, I just tried to stay there at the beginning, because she was hitting so strong. “I just tried to hold my serve, to make her think, and I think I made it good. I’m really, really happy with the way I played, and happy to win”, added she.

Before this week, the No.4-seeded Spaniard had gone 2-for-12 in singles quarterfinals and 0-for-2 in semifinals before her run in Guadalajara.
