Mikaela Shiffrin claimed her 83rd Alpine Skiing World Cup victory, taking her sole lead in the women’s all-time standings. With her triumph in the first giant slalom in Kronplatz (Italy), the American broke away from her compatriot Lindsey Vonn, who ended her career with 82 successes.

The next goal for Mikaela Shiffrin will be the absolute record of the legendary Swede Ingemar Stenmark, who managed to win 86 victories in his career.

Today Mikaela Shiffrin was above everyone in both runs and deservedly triumphed with an advance of 0.45 sec over the Swiss alpine skier Lara Gut-Behrami. Federica Brignone (Italy) came third on the podium with a lag of 1.43 sec from the winner.

The Slovakian Petra Vlhova finished one step away from the podium, despite moving two places ahead in the second run, which was organized by her coach Mauro Pini. The former winner of the big crystal globe overtook the Canadian Valerie Grenier and the second American Paula Moltzan, who made a mistake and did not finish.

For Mikaela Shiffrin, today’s victory is under No 9 since the beginning of the season and, quite expectedly, she leads the general classification for the World Cup. In it, with an asset of 1417 points, the American leads with 556 points over Lara Gut-Behrami, and by 871 points over Petra Vlhova.

In the battle for the small crystal globe in the giant slalom, with her fourth triumph in nine starts, Mikaela Shiffrin regained the first position. With a total of 500 points, the American leads by 49 points over Marta Bassino (Italy), who finished only 10th today. The third position is taken by Lara Gut-Behrami, who is 63 points behind Mikaela Shiffrin.

The Women’s World Cup continues tomorrow with the second giant slalom in Kronplatz, originally scheduled to take place in Spindleruv Mlyn (Czech Republic). However, as the Czech resort will host the postponed Zagreb (Croatia) slalom on Saturday, the then-scheduled giant slalom was rescheduled for tomorrow in Kronplatz.
