Maria Sakkari was eliminated from the US Open 2022

The third-seeded Greek tennis player Maria Sakkari was eliminated from the US Open 2022 in the second round, losing to China’s Wang Xiyu by 1-2 (6:3, 5:7, 5:7). Thus, another of the top-seeded tennis players are out of the tournament.

Maria Sakkari took the first set with a convincing 6:3, but then Wang Xiyu, who is WTA number 75, made a comeback and recorded another sensation winning the next two sets.

In the next round, Wang Xiyu will face Alison Riske-Amritraj, who defeated María Camila Osorio Serrano by 2-1 (6:4, 6:7, 7:6).

The 12th-seeded Cori “Coco” Gauff also advanced to the next round after a victory versus Elena Gabriela Ruse by 2-0 (6:2, 7:6).

The American Madison Keys qualified for the third round after a tough match versus Italian Camila Giorgi but finally won by 2-1 (6:4, 5:7, 7:6) after2 hours and a half.

Veronika Kudermetova and Shuai Zhang also advanced to the third round after straight-set victories. In the next round, Veronika Kudermetova will face Dalma Galfi, who qualified after winning her match versus Harriet Dart by 2-0 (6:4, 6:0), while Shuai Zhang will face Rebecca Marino, who defeated Daria Snigur by 2-0 (6:3, 7:6).
