Karolina Muchova eliminated Aryna Sabalenka and qualified for the Roland Garros final

The unseeded Czech tennis player Karolina Muchova qualified for the Roland Garros final after a dramatic 2-1 (7:6, 6:7, 7:5) win against the second-seeded Aryna Sabalenka (Belarus) in 3:17 hours.

Karolina Muchova, who is WTA No 43, saved a match point and achieved a turnover from 2:5 to 7:5 in the third set, winning five consecutive games. The 26-year-old Czech tennis player recorded her first victory against the representative of Belarus in a total of two matches against her.

The second-seeded Aryna Sabalenka, who triumphed with the Australian Open title earlier in the season, suffered her first Grand Slam defeat of the year after recording 12 consecutive victories. The tennis player from Belarus lost the first set after a tiebreak, but later qualized after another tiebreak in the second set.

Karolina Muchova, who looked extremely tired in the final stages of the match, will participate in the first Grand Slam final of her career.

“I don’t know what happened. The atmosphere, the people – they helped me. I fought, I’m so happy. I try to play my style and it works. The atmosphere is great, everyone supported me. The feeling is more than amazing”, commented Karolina Muchova a few minutes after the success.

Karolina Muchova has had a career-high singles ranking of world No 19, achieved on May 17, 2021. She has reached two finals on the WTA Tour, winning one title, the International-level Korea Open in 2019.
