Kaia Kanepi and Alison Riske easily passed the first round of the WTA 1000 Indian Wells Open.

The Estonian Kaia Kanepi won her opening match for the tournaments versus American teenager Robin Montgomery with 2-0 (6:3, 6:3) for 72 minutes. She won 72% of the 1st serve points and 41% in 2ns serve points. She saved 5 of 8 breakpoints and won the match at the first match point.

In the second round, she will face the Tokyo 2020 Olympic champion and 22nd-seeded Belinda Bencic.

The American Alison Riske recorded a straight-set victory in the first round versus Caty McNally. She closed the first set on zero and make an early break to have a comfortable lead in the second. However, it was not as easy as she expected, but finally, won it by 6:3.

In the second round, she will face the 8th-seeded Garbine Muguruza.

In other matches of the first round of the WTA 1000 Indian Wells Open, the American Claire Liu defeated Bulgarian player Viktoriya Tomova with 2-0 (7:6, 6:4), while Japanese Misaki Doi took a hard victory versus Anastasia Potapova of Russia with 2-1 (0:6, 6:4, 6:3). The Croatian player Petra Martic qualified for the second round after a victory versus Anna Bondar with 2-0 (7:5, 6:3) and the Russian player Ekaterina Alexandrova defeated Elvina Kalieva with 2-1 (4:6, 6:2, 7:6).
