Jessica Pegula won the WTA 500 German Open title

The fourth-seeded Jessica Pegula (USA) won the WTA 500 German Open title in Berlin. The American saved as many as five match points and prevailed by 2-1 (6:7, 6:4, 7:6) against Anna Kalinskaya (Russia).

In the decisive third set, Jessica Pegula, who is world’s No 5, showed good nerves and managed to prevail over Anna Kalinskaya after a tiebreak, but before that the Russian had five opportunities to win the title, but failed. The match lasted 2:33 hours and was filled with emotions to the delight of the fans in the stands.

This victory earned Jessica Pegula her fifth career singles title and her first on grass, a significant achievement just days before Wimbledon, where she reached the quarter-finals the previous year

Earlier in the day, Jessica Pegula eliminated top-seeded Cori Coco Gauff (USA). The match between the two American tennis players was interrupted due to rain in the German capital. Jessica Pegula led the match after 7:5 in the first set, and in the tiebreak of the second set again has a lead of 3-1 points. The match ended at noon, and Jessica Pegula was decisive with 7-2 points, which achieved success in two sets.
