Irish athlete Ellie McCartney

Ellie McCartney is an Irish track and field athlete. She specialized in the pole vault and is a three-time National champion and a five-time National Indoor champion. Her personal best is 4.31m, achieved at the 2023 Dublin Irish Championships.

Ellie McCartney was born on October 8, 1999. She became a multiple national junior and youth champion.

Ellie McCartney started her career in 2016. She won the gold at the Tullamore Irish U23/U20 Championships and Tullamore Irish Schools Championships. During the season, she also won the bronze at the Ashford SIAB Schools’ International.

Ellie McCartney won her first national titles in 2017, triumphing with the gold at the Athlone Irish Indoor Championships and later at the Tullamore Irish Championships. During the season she won the pole vault gold at the Dublin AAI Games, Athlone Irish U23/U20 Indoor Championships, and Tullamore Irish U23/U20 Championships, as well as finished third at the Belfast Northern Ireland Championships.

Ellie McCartney won another national title at the 2018 Abbotstown Irish Indoor Championships. She also won the bronze at the Manchester International Match and the gold at the Tullamore Irish U20 Championships, Athlone Irish U23/U20 Indoor Championships, and the Tullamore Ireland Schools Championships. During the season she set a personal best of 3.90m in Manchester.

In 2019, Ellie McCartney finally crossed the 4-meter level at the England Athletics U20/U23 Championships, winning the silver, and set a personal best of 4.01m at the Irish U23 Championships, winning the gold. She earned the pole vault gold at the Santry Irish Championships and the silver at the BUCS Championships in Bedford. She also competed at the Sandnes European Athletics Team Championships First League and the AtletiCAGeneve, where missed the honors.

Ellie McCartney triumphed with the gold at the 2020 Irish Indoor Championships, Inter Varsity Meeting, Brunel Jumps & Throws Festival, South of England AA U20/Senior Championships, and JMO Consulting Invitational Pole Vault Meet.

Ellie McCartney competed at the Tallinn European Athletics U23 Championships in 2021 but did not qualify for the final. During the season she won the gold at the Loughborough Indoor Open, Manchester International, and Northern Ireland & Ulster Senior Championships, as well as the silver at the Manchester Invitational and National Athletics League Premier London North. She achieved twice the 4.15m, setting her new personal best.

In 2022, Ellie McCartney continued improving her results, which gave her a quota for the Birmingham XXII Commonwealth Games, where she finished 7th in the final with 4.25m. Earlier during the indoor season, she grabbed another national title at the Irish Indoor Championships, as well as the gold at the BUCS British University Championships. Later during the outdoor season, she grabbed the gold at the Belfast International EAP Meet, Loughborough Field Fest, and Clayton Invitational, as well as the silver at the Manchester High Jump & Pole Vault Challenge.

Ellie McCartney started the 2023 indoor season strongly by winning her fifth national title at the Irish Indoor Championships. She also earned the silver at the Loughborough Indoor Open and the gold at the Vault Cardiff, setting her personal best of 4.26m. During the outdoor season, Ellie McCartney triumphed with the gold at the Dublin Irish Championships, setting her personal best of 4.31m, and Chorzow European Athletics Team Championships Third Division.

In 2024, Ellie McCartney won the silver at the 42. Internationales Marktplatzspringen Recklinghausen, as well as the gold at the Loughborough International and Eton National Athletics League – Premiership, covering a height of 4.30m in all three competitions.
