Iga Swiatek qualified for the third round of Wimbledon

The world’s number one and top-seeded Iga Swiatek (Poland) qualified for the third round of Wimbledon tennis championship after defeating Petra Martic (Croatia) by 2-0 (6:4, 6:3).

The 23-year-old Polish tennis player triumphed in Madrid and Rome, took the title at Roland Garros before switching to the grass courts of Wimbledon and reaching the third round.

Iga Swiatek, who has five Grand Slam titles but has never advanced over the quarter-finals in London, looked comfortable on the grass on Center Court, although she was tested at times by Petra Martic’s powerful serve.

Petra Martic, 10 years older than Iga Swiatek and ranked 85th in the world, fell and needed treatment after the seventh game of the first set, but was able to finish the match.

Iga Swiatek made one break at the end of each set and ended the match on her first match point.

In the next round, the Polish tennis player will face Yulia Putintseva (Kazakhstan).

In other matches of the day, the 4th-seeded Elena Rybakina (Kazakhstan) eliminated Laura Siegemund (Germany) with 2-1 (6:3, 3:6, 6:3), while the 11th-seeded Danielle Collins (USA) beat Dalma Gálfi (Hungary) by 2-0 (6:3, 6:4).

The 21st-seeded Elina Svitolina (Ukraine) won over Jule Niemeier (Germany) by 2-0 (6:3, 6:4).

The American Bernarda Pera eliminated the 23rd-seeded Caroline Garcia (France) by 2-1 (3:6, 6:3, 6:4).

In an all-Russian clash, Liudmila Samsonova eliminated her compatriot Elina Avanesyan by 2-0 (6:3, 6:3).
