The top-seeded and 2022 champion Iga Swiatek (Poland) qualified for the final of the WTA 1000 Indian Wells Open after smashing Marta Kostyuk (Ukraine) in the semi-finals by 2-0 (6:2, 6:1) in only 65 minutes. Thus, the Polish tennis player will play in the final versus the 9th-seeded Maria Sakkari (Greece).
Iga Swiatek did not faced any problems in the semi-finals versus her Ukrainian opponent after starting confidently the match with two early breaks to have a lead by 4:1. This proved to be enough for her to close the set by 6:2 after 31 minutes of play.
The second set started in the same way and Iga Swiatek took a lead by 4:2 with two breaks and closed the set with her third break in the set for 6:1. Marta Kostyuk was totally unable to respond the powerful play of the world’s number one Polish tennis star.
However, the Ukrainian played made 2 aces and also committed 4 double faults. Iga Swiatek had 74% success in the first serve and won 81% of her first serve points.
In the final, Iga Swiatek will face Maria Sakkari, who eliminated the third-seeded Cori Coco Gauff (USA).
