The European Indoor champion in 60m from Glasgow 2019 Ewa Swoboda made an impressive start to the winter season. The 24-year-old Polish athlete topped the world rankings in the 60m for 2022 after winning the Orlen Cup victory in Lodz (Poland) with 7.00 sec. The competition is from the World Athletics Tour with a “silver label”.
Ewa Swoboda showed great form in the series, where she also recorded a No 1 result in the world for the season of 7.04 sec and improved Poland’s record of 7.07 sec, set by herself in 2016 when she was still competing in the girls under 20.
An hour later, the 24-year-old sprinter, who missed the European Indoor Championships in Torun last year over a positive COVID-19 test, won the final run by 7.00 sec.
Zaynab Dosso finished second with 7.19 sec, equaling the record of Italy, and the Swede Claudia Payton was third with a personal best of 7.24 sec.
Ewa Swoboda’s winning result equaled it in tenth place in the eternal world rankings indoor and third in the European.
With her extremely strong result, the Pole also made a serious bid for the world indoor title in Belgrade at the championship, which will be held in the Serbian capital from March 18th to 20th. However, the winner of five Olympic medals in the sprint Elaine Thompson-Herah should start there, which is also a prerequisite for very strong results.
