Alessia Russo is an English footballer who plays as a forward for Manchester United in the Women’s Super League and the England national team. She is the European champion with England in 2022.
Alessia Mia Teresa Russo was born on 8 February 8, 1999, in Maidstone, England. She was introduced to football at an early age and played for Bearsted Girls U10 as a child. Later she played county schools’ football for Kent Schools FA whilst attending St Simon Stock School in Maidstone. She developed her skills at Charlton Athletic’s Centre of Excellence, before joining and captaining Chelsea’s development squad.
Alessia Russo made her professional debut in football for Chelsea, but this was her only appearance for the team. She debuted for the club in the first round of the FA WSL Continental Cup in July 2016.
Alessia Russo joined the newly promoted Brighton & Hove Albion ahead of the 2017 FA WSL Spring Series. She made her Brighton debut in February 2017 in an FA Cup third-round victory against AFC Wimbledon. On her next appearance, Alessia Russo scored Brighton’s first-ever goal at the WSL level.
Later in 2017, Alessia Russo moved to the United States to play college soccer, joining the ACC team North Carolina Tar Heels. She finished her first season as the leading scorer on the team with nine goals as well as two assists and earned several accolades including co-ACC Freshman of the Year. During her stay in the club, she appeared in 57 matches and scored 28 goals.
In September 2020, Alessia Russo signed a 2+1-year contract with Manchester United. In the 2021/2022 season, she led the team in goals with 11 goals in 30 appearances in all competitions and was named the inaugural winner of the team’s Players’ Player of the Year award.

At the international level, she appeared in all the youth teams, as well as the senior team of England. She debuted for the senior team in February 2020. With the team she won the UEFA Women’s Championship in 2022, Women’s Finalissima in 2023, as well as Arnold Clark Cup in 2022 and 2023.
Individually, Alessia Russo won the UEFA Women’s Championship Bronze Boot in 2022, as well as the UEFA Women’s Under-17 Championship Top Scorer in 2016.
