The British tennis talent Emma Raducanu qualified for the Round of 16 at the WTA 1000 Indian Wells Open after defeating 13th-seeded Beatriz Haddad Maia (Brazil) by 2-1 (6:1, 2:6, 6:4) in 2:21 hours.
The British tennis player made a strong match and despite having some problems on the first serve, she was quite accurate in the returns. Two breaks in the first set were enough for her to win by 6:1 in only 34 minutes. However, the second set made a big mistake in her first serving game allowing Beatriz Haddad Maia to take a lead by 3:0 and kept the control of the set to close by 6:2.
The third set started equally and both players won their serving games. Emma Raducanu first succeeded to break her opponent in the 7th game and this was enough for her to win the set and the match.
In the other matches from the day, the 10th-seeded Elena Rybakina (Kazakhstan) defeated Paula Badosa (Spain) by 2-0 (6:3, 7:5), while Sorana Cirstea (Romania) won her match versus Bernarda Pera (USA) by 2-0 (6:3, 6:1).
The 5th-seeded Caroline Garcia (France) also qualified for the Round of 16 at the WTA 1000 Indian Wells Open after a victory over Leylah Fernandez (Canada) by 2-1 (6:4, 6:7, 6:1).
Karolina Muchova (Czech Republic) defeated Martina Trevisan (Italy) by 2-1 (6:4, 3:6, 6:4).
