Elaine Thompson-Herah will not defend her 200m title at the Paris 2024 Olympics

Jamaican five-time Olympic gold medalist Elaine Thompson-Herah will not defend her 200m title at the Paris 2024 Olympics this summer. The 31-year-old athlete decided not to compete in that distance at Jamaica’s national qualifiers but still plans to start in the 100m.

Elaine Thompson-Herah appeared to suffer the injury during the 100m at the New York Grand Prix earlier this month.

She is the second fastest woman in history in 100m event and became the first woman to win back-to-back Olympic sprints in the 100m and 200m when she retained her 100m and 200m titles at Tokyo 2020.

In November, Elaine Thompson-Herah split with coach Shanikie Osbourne and moved to Reynaldo Walcott, who also coaches her Jamaican teammate Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce.

Athletics competitions at the Paris 2024 Olympics will be held from August 1 to 11.
