Cori Coco Gauff vs Maria Sakkari in the second semi-final of the WTA 1000 Indian Wells Open

Maria Sakkari vs Cori Coco Gauff

Cori Coco Gauff (USA) and Maria Sakkari (Greece) will play in the second semifinal of the WTA 1000 Indian Wells Open tennis tournament.

In the quarterfinals, the third-seeded Cori Coco Gauff prevailed relatively easily by 2-0 (6:4, 6:3) over Yue Yuan (China) in 1:36 hours of play. The Chinese player was able to take an early break lead in both sets of the match, but was unable to hold onto that lead. Cori Coco Gauff succeeded to use her greater experience and made the turnover in both sets to ensure success.

More difficult was the victory of Maria Sakkari, who eliminated Emma Navarro (USA) after 2-1 (5:7, 6:2, 6:4). This was the third match between the two in the last six months, after which the Greek tennis player led the overall result with 2-1.

Emma Navarro took the advantage after the first set with better play at the end. Maria Sakkari had a break lead at 4:3, but by the end the American had taken four of five games played.

In the second set, the better start was for Maria Sakkari. The Greek player took a quick 4:0 advance and this paved the way to the decisive third set. The third set also started with a break in her favor, but Emma Navarro equalized shortly after. At 4:4 in the game, Maria Sakkari had two opportunities to break through, and in the second of them, he realized the break, with which he also reached success in the match.
