Coco Gauff is the youngest Roland Garros finalist in 21 years

The American teenager Cori “Coco” Gauff defeated the Italian Martina Trevisan with 2-0 (6:3, 6:1) to qualify for the final of the Grand Slam tournament 2022 Roland Garros. The US tennis player has thus become the youngest finalist in Paris in 21 years and will compete for the title with world number-one Iga Swiatek.

The 18-year-old Coco Gauff is still a complete stranger to the Grand Slam, as her participation today was the first in the semifinals. She is currently the youngest Grand Slam tournament finalist in 18 years.

Cori “Coco” Gauff started both of the sets with breaks. The American advanced by 2:1, although after that the exchange of breaks stopped only at 4:3. In the second set, she led by 3:1 in a marathon game that lasted 14 minutes. Three times Martina Trevisan saved the breakpoint, but at the end of the fourth attempt, the American won it, and then struck a decisive blow for 5: 1.

The 28-year-old Martina Trevisan remains the finalist with the lowest position in the rankings in the tournament’s history. She definitely had no resistance for more than a set, even having to take a medical timeout. In the middle of the second set, her unforced errors reached 35.
