Camila Giorgi continues ahead at WTA 1000 Rogers Cup, defeating the Argentinian Nadia Podoroska with 2-0 (6:2, 6:4). Thus, the Italian player is ahead and will face the 2012 champion Petra Kvitova, who qualified after defeating the French Fiona Ferro with 2-0 (6:4, 6:4).
Camila Giorgi is in great form, after reaching the quarter-finals of the Tokyo 2020 Olympics. At the WTA 1000 Rogers Cup, she eliminated the ninth-seeded Elise Mertens in the second round and now defeated the world’s No 38 Nadia Podoroska in a 1.5-hour match.
The first set was with a total dominance for Camila Giorgi, who broke the first two service games of Nadia Podoroska and lead by 4:0. Despite the break she received in the fifth game, the Italian girl won the set with 6:2.
The second set was quite more equal and both players won their service games at the beginning. The result was moving draw to 4:3 for Camila Giorgi when she succeeded to register a break and had a chance to serve for the match. However, Nadia Podoroska broke her service and had a chance to save the match, if she had not made another mistake. Camila Giorgi won the set with 6:4, as well as the match with 2-0.
In the other matches WTA 1000 Rogers Cup (Canadian Open), British No 1 Johanna Konta eliminated third-seeded Ukrainian Elina Svitolina and reach the round of 16. Johanna Konta won the match with 2-1 (3:6, 6:3, 6:2) and will face Cori Gauff, who defeated Anastasia Potapova.
World’s No 6 Karolina Pliskova is also ahead in the tournament after winning the match versus Donna Vekic with 2-1 (4:6, 6:3, 7:6). She will face Amanda Anisimova, who defeated Oceane Dodin with 2-0 (6:3, 6:3).
