Aryna Sabalenka qualified for the third round of the WTA 1000 Miami Open

The 2nd-seeded Aryna Sabalenka (Belarus) qualified for the third round of the WTA 1000 Miami Open after a straight-set victory versus Shelby Rogers (USA). The Belarusian player won the match by 2-0 (6:4, 6:3) in 1:17 hours.

Aryna Sabalenka took an early break in the first set and even received a set point in the 8th game at a serve of Shelby Rogers. However, the American saved the breakpoint and even made a break in the next game to equalize the breaks. In the next game, Aryna Sabalenka received another break/set point and this time did not miss it and closed the set at 6:4.

The second set started with a break for Shelby Rogers, who took a lead of 2:0. She them the break advantage until the 6th game, when Aryna Sabalenka equalized. Until the end of the set, the Belarusian won another 3 games in a row and won it by 6:3.

Thus, Aryna Sabalenka qualified for the third round of the WTA 1000 Miami Open and will face Marie Bouzkova (Czech Republic) who defeated Anna Blinkova (Russia) by 2-1 (3:6, 6:4, 6:3).

Magdalena Frech (Poland) also advanced to the third round after winning her match versus Erika Andreeva (Russia) by 2-1 (4:6, 6:1, 6:1), while Qinwen Zheng (China) eliminated Liudmila Samsonova (Russia) after 2-1 (7:5, 6:7, 6:3).

The Tokyo 2020 Olympics champion Belinda Bencic (Switzerland) did not face any difficulties to defeated the 2021 US Open runner-up Leylah Fernandez (Canada) by 2-0 (6:1, 6:1). Jelena Ostapenko (Latvia) and eliminated Beatriz Haddad Maia (Brazil) by 2-1 (6:2, 4:6, 6:3).

The biggest surprise of the day was the loss of Cori Coco Gauff, who was defeated by Anastasia Potapova (Russia) by 1-2 (7:6, 5:7, 2:6).
