The second-seeded Aryna Sabalenka (Belarus) qualified for the quarter-finals of the WTA 1000 Indian Wells Open. The Belarusian tennis player defeated Barbora Krejcikova (Czech Republic) by 2-1 (6:3, 2:6, 6:4) in a match that lasted more than 2 hours.
Aryna Sabalenka started the match confidently and took an early two breaks to lead by 5:1 in the first set. Despite losing her serve game, however, she succeeded to close the set by 6:3.
In the second set, Barbora Krejcikova made a break in the fourth game and after a new break in the very end of the set, she succeeded to win by 6:2 and equalized the sets.
In the third set, Aryna Sabalenka took a lead at the beginning of the set after a break and had 5 break points to make another break in the 7th game, but at the end, Barbora Krejcikova won her serve. However, the Belarusian tennis player succeeded to close the set at 6:4 with her first match point.
Thus, Aryna Sabalenka qualified for the quarter-finals of the WTA 1000 Indian Wells Open and will face Cori Coco Gauff (USA), who defeated Rebecca Peterson (Sweden) by 2-1 (6:3, 1:6, 6:4).
The 7th-seeded Maria Sakkari (Greece) also advanced to the quarter-finals after a victory versus Karolina Pliskova (Czech Republic) by 2-1 (6:4, 5:7, 6:3).
