The American athlete Anna Hall is close to the limit of 7,000 points in the heptathlon, after winning the two-day race in Gotzis (Austria) with the best result in the world for the season of 6,988 points. With this result, the 22-year-old athlete took fifth place in the all-time world ranking in the discipline. The four athletes before her crossed the 7,000 point mark and these are Jackie Joyner-Kersee, Carolina Kluft, Nafissatou Thiam and Larisa Turchinskaya.
Anna Hall, who is a world bronze medalist, won the 100m hurdles with 12.75 sec. She also improved her personal best in the high jump with 1.92m. In the shot put, the American recorded 13.90m.
Anna Hall continued with a personal record for 200m in 22.88 sec and finished the first day with a score of 4,172 points.
The second day of the American started with a personal record in the long jump of 6.54m. In the javelin throw she achieved 43.08m, and on the 800m she also finished with a personal best of 2:02.97 min.
“I am very happy with my result. It’s incredible. This is a dream. I’m only 22 and I have time to score over 7000 points. Now I’m focused on progress. I’m running another 400m hurdles in Florence on Friday and then I’m back in the US to prepare for the national championships and the World Championships”, said Anna Hall after the race.
British athlete Katarina Johnson-Thompson, a two-time Gotzis champion, earned the silver at the heptathlon 2023 Gotzis Hypomeeting with a score of 6,556 points in only her second appearance in 2023. Adrianna Sulek (Poland) secured the bronze with 6,480 points.
World and Olympic silver medalist Anouk Vetter withdrew on the second day of the competition due to an achilles injury.
