Former world number one Angelique Kerber is working hard on her return to the tennis court and has already set her sights on next year’s Paris 2024 Olympics and winning a medal in the French capital.
The 35-year-old German tennis player gave birth to her first child in February. She has not played in a tournament since mid-2022, but plans to play at the Australian Open, which starts in just over a month. Before that, Angelique Kerber will also play in the United Cup tournament.
“I hope that I will be able to participate in Paris and play with Alexander Zverev in the mixed doubles tournament. To win the title will be great. When I see him in Australia, we will certainly discuss this topic. Participation in the Olympics is a career highlight to every athlete, and being able to represent Germany has always been a privilege for me”, said the three-time Grand Slam champion, Angelique Kerber, adding that she hopes to be her country’s flag bearer at the opening ceremony. “It would be an indescribable happiness for any German athlete. But it is also my dream”, added she.
However, the German did not predict how her return to the court will go and whether she will be able to achieve the successes she had before motherhood again.
“I have done everything necessary. I feel good and my preparation is going according to plan. But it is still too early to make predictions”, concluded Angelique Kerber.
Angelique Kerber has been ranked as high as world No 1, for a total of 34 weeks, and won three Major titles at the 2016 Australian Open, the 2016 US Open, and the 2018 Wimbledon Championships
