Angelina Topic won the high jump title at the Lima World U20 Championships

Serbian track and field talent Angelina Topic won the girls’ under-20 high jump world title at the World Championships in Lima, Peru. Less than a month after she failed to jump in the Olympic final in Paris due to an injury she suffered during the warm-up and with which she qualified among the best, the 19-year-old Angelina Topic triumphed with the gold medal in Peru with an achievement of 1.91m.

It is a third major girls’ title for the Serbian athlete, who has European gold medals in girls under-18 and under-20.

“It’s really crazy to be here because I think the rest of the world saw that I broke my leg four weeks ago at the Olympics and that broke my heart as well. I didn’t really know what to expect this season, but my career is good. I started walking 10 days ago. We came here without any training for the last three weeks and two weeks ago I did my first jump in training after what happened at the Olympics”, said Angelina Topic after the final.

Izobelle Louison-Roe (Australia) won the silver medal with a personal best of 1.89m, and Karmen Bruus (Estonia) took the bronze with 1.89m.

The Top 5 was completed by Lilianna Batori (Hungary) and Maria Isabel Arboleda (Colombia).
