Danielle Collins is an American professional tennis player, who has reached career-high WTA rankings of No 7 in singles and world No 86 in doubles. She has won two WTA Tour singles titles at the WTA 250 Palermo Ladies Open and the WTA 500 Mubadala Silicon Valley Classic, both in 2021. She is also the runner-up at the Australian Open in 2022.

Danielle Rose Collins was born on December 13, 1993, in St Petersburg, Florida, United States. She started in tennis at an early age and among her achievement as a junior are winning the USTA National Open, USTA National Spring Championships, Gator Bowl, and National Clay Court Championships. She played collegiate tennis at the University of Virginia and won the NCAA singles title twice, in 2014 and 2016, as well as the Honda Sports Award as the nation’s best female tennis player in 2016.

Danielle Collins made her professional debut already in 2009 at the $25,000 Lutz, FL (USA), losing in the first round. A month later she also competed at the $50,000 Clearwater, FL (USA), but again lost already in the opening match.

However, Danielle Collins gained some experience and won her first ITF title in 2011 at the $10,000 W15 Williamsburg, VA (USA). Despite her young age during the season, she reached the semi-finals of the $10,000 Buffalo, NY (USA) and $25,000 Rock Hill, SC (USA).

In 2014, Danielle Collins debuted in the main scheme of a Grand Slam tournament – the US Open. She lost in the first round to Simona Halep but got an experience in a main tennis forum.

In 2016, she played again in the main scheme of the US Open but again lost in the opening match. She reached the second round of the WTA 125 Hawaii Open, defeating Tatjana Maria (Germany) in her first win at a WTA tennis tournament. During the season, she won the title at the $25,000 Stillwater, OK (USA) and was the runner-up at the $50,000 Macon, GA (USA).

In 2017, Danielle Collins continued gaining experience in the ITF tour, winning the titles at the $25,000 Bethany Beach (USA) and remaining the runner-up at the $60,000 W60 Charleston, SC (USA), $25,000 W25 Naples, FL (USA), $80,000 W80 Tyler, TX (USA), and $25,000 Norman, OK (USA). She also played in the main scheme of the WTA 1000 Indian Wells Open, but again lost in the first round.

Danielle Collins won her first WTA title in 2018 at the WTA 125 Oracle Challenger Series. She made a breakthrough at the WTA 1000 Indian Wells Open, reaching the 4th round, and the WTA 1000 Miami Open, reaching the semi-finals. During the season, she also reached the semi-finals of the WTA 500 Mubadala Silicon Valley Classic and thus entered the world’s Top 5 and ended the season as the world’s No 36.

Danielle Collins made a fantastic start of the 2019 season, reaching the semi-finals of the Australian Open. During the season, she reached the quarter-finals of the WTA 500 Credit One Charleston Open and the third round of the Wimbledon. She remained in the world’s Top 50 and ended the season at No 29.

In 2020, the tennis season was seriously disturbed by the coronavirus pandemic. Danielle Collins reached the semi-finals of the WTA 500 Adelaide International and the quarterfinals of the French Open / Roland Garros.

In 2021, Danielle Collins was in top form and won her two most prestigious titles so far – WTA 500 Mubadala Silicon Valley Classic and WTA 250 Palermo Ladies Open. She also reached the semi-finals of the WTA 500 Yarra Valley Classic, WTA 250 Phillip Island Trophy, WTA 250 Hungarian Grand Prix, and WTA 250 Upper Austria Ladies Linz, as well as the quarter-finals of the WTA 500 Adelaide International and WTA 500 Chicago Fall Tennis Classic.

In 2022, Danielle Collins started the season perfectly, reaching the final of the Australian Open. In March, she reached the quarter-finals of the WTA 1000 Miami Open, while in August reached the fourth round of the US Open. She also reached the semi-finals of the WTA 500 San Diego Open and the third round of the WTA 1000 Guadalajara Open. During the season her ranking climbed to career-high No 7, and finished the season as the world’s No 14.

In 2023, Danielle Collins failed to defend her achievements from the previous seasons. She reached the quarter-finals of the WTA 500 Adelaide International 2, the third round of the Australian Open, and the semi-finals of the WTA 250 ATX Open, but this was insufficient to keep her ranking and she dropped to world’s No 41.
