Amanda Anisimova is an American professional tennis player, who has won two WTA Tour titles and reached three WTA finals. She has a career-high WTA ranking of No 21 in the world, and has been ranked in the top 100 since shortly after turning 17 years old.
Amanda Anisimova was born on August 31, 2001, in Freehold Township, New Jersey, the US. She started playing tennis at age five. She entered the 2015 Abierto Juvenil Mexicano ranked outside the top 300, but unexpectedly won the high-level Grade A tournament at age 14. Amanda Anisimova achieved a career high ITF junior ranking of No 2 in the world in 2016. During her youth career she won the title at the 2013 Nike Junior Tour Masters, was the runner-up of the 2016 Juniour French Open / Roland Garros and reached the semi-finals of the 2013 Junior Orange Bowl and the 2013 USTA National Championships. However, her biggest achievement was winning the Junior title of the US Open in 2017.
Amanda Anisimova made her professional debut in 2016, receiving a wildcard into US Open qualifying. She won the first match, but lost the second.
In 2017, Amanda Anisimova played at the $25,000 W25 Curitiba (Brazil) and reached the final, losing to Anastasia Potapova. She also played at the WTA 1000 Miami Open, where lost in the first round. During the season, she was the runner-up at the $80,000 Indian Harbour Beach (USA) and $60,000 Dothan, AL (USA). Amanda Anisimova also debut at the French Open / Roland Garros but lost in the first round. Later during the season, she won her first ITF title at the 60,000 Sacramento, CA (USA).
Amanda Anisimova made her first breakthrough in 2018 at the WTA 1000 Indian Wells, reaching the fourth round. During the season she reached her first WTA final at the WTA 250 Hana-cupid Japan Women’s Open Tennis but lost to Su-Wei Hsieh.
The season 2019 was the most successful for the young American tennis player. She reached the fourth round of the Australian Open. In April, she won her first WTA title at the WTA 250 Copa Colsanitas and in May reached the semi-finals of the French Open / Roland Garros. Following her great performance, Amanda Anisimova reached WTA ranking of world’s No 21 and ended the season as No 24.
In 2020, Amanda Anisimova started the season strongly, reaching the semi-finals of the WTA 250 ASB Classic, losing to Serena Williams. During the season, she reached the third round of the WTA 1000 Qatar Total Open, the US Open and the French Open / Roland Garros. She ended the season at No 30.
In 2021, Amanda Anisimova lost the momentum of her good performance and her biggest achievement was reaching the third round of the WTA 1000 Rogers Cup and WTA 1000 Indian Wells Open.
In 2022, she won her second WTA trophy at the WTA 250 Melbourne Summer Set II. She achieved the fourth round of the Australian Open and the French Open / Roland Garros, as well as the quarter-finals of the WTA 1000 Mutua Madrid Open and WTA 1000 Rome Open. At Wimbledon, she made her biggest breakthrough during the season, reaching the quarter-finals.
