Agnes Jebet Ngetich will attack the world record in the half marathon

The 10km world record holder Agnes Jebet Ngetich (Kenya) will try to break the world record in the half marathon as well in her debut at this distance in Valencia on October 27. The Kenyan long-distance runner will return to the city where she set the 10km world record (28:46 min) in Valencia in January.

It was in Valencia that Letesenbet Gidey (Ethiopia) achieved the half marathon world record of 1:02.52 min in 2021, and in the men’s race, Kibiwott Kandie recorded the second fastest time ever in men’s history (57:32 min) in 2020.

Agnes Jebet Ngetich will attack Letesenbet Gidey’s record, who holds eight of the top ten women’s times in half-marathon history.

Agnes Jebet Ngetichwon two medals at the 2023 World Cross Country Championships with bronze in the senior women’s race and team gold. In January 2024, she improved the women’s world record for a 10km run by 28 seconds with a time of 28:46 min. She also broke the 5km women’s world record in a mixed-gender race by passing the 5km mark in 14:13 min, 6 seconds faster than the previous world record.
