The second-seeded Elena Rybakina is out of the WTA 500 German Open

The second-seeded Elena Rybakina (Kazakhstan) is out of the WTA 500 German Open after losing to Donna Vekic 9croatia) by 1-2 (7:6, 3:6, 4:6) in 2:16 hours of play.

The first set was running equal with breaks with both players losing total of 5 breakpoints. However, the set ran into a tiebreak, which Elena Rybakina won by 7-1.

The second set started in a similar way, but in the 6th game Donna Vekic got three breakpoints and succeeded to win the last one to break her opponent and take a lead of 4:2. Thus proved to be enough for her to win the set by 6:3.

In the third set, Again only one break in the 7th game gave an advantage for the Croatian player, who succeeded to close the set at 6:4 and win the match.

Thus, Donna Vekic qualified for the quarter-finals of the prestigious tournament, where will face Elina Avanesyan (Russia).

Petra Kvitova (Czech republic) defeated Nadia Podoroska (Argentina) by 2-0 (6:1, 6:1) and qualified for the quarter-finals, where will face the 3rd-seeded Caroline Garcia (France), who eliminated Jaimee Fourlis (Australia) after 2-0 (6:3, 6:2).

In another matches from the day, Aliaksandra Sasnovich won the Belarusian derby versus her compatriot Victoria Azarenka by 2-0 (6:4, 6:4) and advanced to the second round, where will face the 6th-seeded Maria Sakkari (Greece), who eliminated Alize Cornet (France) after 2-0 (6:4, 6:2).

Veronika Kudermetova (Russia) also advanced to the second round after defeating Qinwen Zheng (China) by 2-0 (6:4, 6:2) and will face the top-seeded Aryna Sabalenka (Belarus).

Marketa Vondrousova (Czech republic) also advanced to the second round after eliminating Bianca Vanessa Andreescu (Canada) by 2-0 (7:6, 7:5).
