The volleyball players from the national team of the Dominican Republic became the last quarter-finalists of the Olympic tournament in Tokyo. The Dominicans left the hosts of Japan out of the Top 8 of the Olympics after beating them with 3-1 (25:10, 25:23, 19:25, 25:19) in their last match of Group A of the tournament.
Thus, the Dominican Republic finished in 4th place in the final standings in the group with 2 wins, 3 losses, and 8 points, which qualifies for the quarterfinals of the Olympics. There awaits the winner of the other group B – the bronze medalist from Rio 2016 USA.
The Japanese remained in the penultimate 5th place with only 1 win, 4 losses, and 4 points, dropping out of further participation in the Olympic tournament.
The most useful for the Dominicans were captain Prisilla Rivera (50% efficiency in attack and 46% positive reception) and Jineiry Martínez (2 blocks and 58% efficiency in attack) with 17 and 16 points for the victory.
For the Japanese team, Sarina Koga was above all with a great 22 points (2 blocks, 43% efficiency in attack and 81% positive reception), but her efforts were not enough for success.
