Daria Kasatkina WTA title

The Russian tennis player Daria Kasatkina won the title at the WTA 500 Silicon Valley Classic in San Jose (USA) with a prize fund of 757,900 USD.

The 7th-seeded Daria Kasatkina defeated the American Shelby Rogers in the final with 2-1 (6:7, 6:1, 6:2) in two hours and 34 minutes of play.

“Thank you to everyone who shares this moment with us on this beautiful court. I wish everyone happiness, love, and peace in the world”, said the Russian tennis player after winning the final in San Jose.

The 25-year-old Daria Kasatkina led by 4:2 in the first set but allowed a turnaround to 5:6, and later conceded in the tiebreak, winning only 2 points. Gradually, however, the Russian found her rhythm and with two breaks in each of the next two sets, she achieved a turnaround and ultimate success in the match. The trophy in San Jose was her first title of the year and the fifth overall in her career. Thus, Daria Kasatkina returned back into the Top 10 of the world rankings.

“I’m happy with the way things are going, especially this season, but the road is long and I won’t stop because I made a mistake once and I don’t want to repeat it. I am hungry for new successes”, commented Daria Kasatkina.

The Russian became the first player to play on the finals at the San Jose tournament in two consecutive years since Serena Williams in 2011 and 2012. “I feel great. Every year it gets better and better, and I’m already wondering if it will be the same next year”, said Daria Kasatkina.

“I played well. I think I took my chances early and was aggressive when I needed to be and patient when I needed to”, said the runner-up Shelby Rogers.
