Iga Swiatek reached the finals of 2022 Rolland Garros

Iga Swiatek

The leader in the WTA rankings, Iga Swiatek, reached the final of Roland Garros for the second time in her career. The Polish tennis player did this in the most convincing way possible, after defeating Daria Kasatkina with 2-0 (6:2, 6:1) in just over an hour of play on the central court in Paris.

Thus, Iga Swiatek recorded her 34th consecutive victory in the WTA and is aiming for a second consecutive triumph at Roland Garros, after winning her first Grand Slam trophy in the French capital in 2020. The rival of the 21-year-old Pole in the title race this year will be Cori “Coco” Gauff, who defeated Martina Trevisan in the second semifinal of the day.

Iga Swiatek did not face any problems with Daria Kasatkina’s resistance, breaking her three times in the first set, winning it with a clear 6:2. The situation was identical in the second set, in which the Polish tennis star won five consecutive games and finished with 6:1.

Iga Swiatek recorded 22 winners and just 13 unforced errors against just 10 winners and 24 unforced errors by Daria Kasatkina. Both congratulated with a high percentage of the first serve – 70% vs 71%, but the world No 1 had a serious advantage in the first and second pass – 79% against 44% in the first serve and 58% against 21% in the second.

Thus, Iga Swiatek will play for her sixth consecutive title this season, after winning tournaments in Doha, Indian Wells, Miami, Stuttgart, and Rome. She has not lost a match since February 16, when she was defeated in three sets by Jelena Ostapenko.
