The top-seeded Qinwen Zheng (China) won the title of the WTA 500 Toray Pan Pacific Open Tennis in Tokyo, Japan. The Chinese tennis player defeated Sofia Kenin (USA) by 2-0 (7:6, 6:3) in 2:08 hours of play.
In the first set none of the players allowed a break, although Sofia Kenin needed to save six breakpoints. On the other hand Qinwen Zheng did not allowed a breakpoint and won 100% of her first serve points. The tiebreak started with advantage for the CHinese player, but her experienced opponent equalized to 4-4. After exchange of mini-breaks, Qinwen Zheng succeeded to close the tiebreak at 7-5 and took a lead in the sets.
The second set was under the control of the top-seeded Chinese player from the beginning after breaking early and taking a lead of 3:0. Sh kept her advance by the end of the set and won by 6:3 again without allowing a breakpoint.
The win extended world number seven Qinwen Zheng’s impressive run of form this year after she became the first Chinese player to win an Olympic singles tennis gold when she triumphed in Paris. She also won in Palermo and finished runner-up in Wuhan and at the Australian Open.
After the victory she clinched her place in the WTA finals next month.
