Aryna Sabalenka qualified for the second round of the French Open / Roland Garros

Aryna Sabalenka Roland Garros

The second-seeded Aryna Sabalenka (Belarus) qualified for the second round of the French Open / Roland Garros. The Belarusian tennis player had no problems against the 19-year-old Russian talent Erika Andreeva and eliminated her after 2-0 (6:1, 6:2).

Aryna Sabalenka made only one ace in the whole match, but managed to place three times more winning shots than her rival – 27:9. In addition, she made five breaks out of only six opportunities, leaving no chance for Erika Andreeva.

In the second round, Aryna Sabalenka, who last year played in the semifinals of Roland Garros, will face Japanese qualifier Moyuka Uchijima, who eliminated Irene Burillo Escorihuela (Spain) after 2-0 (6:1, 6:1).

Daria Kasatkina (Russia) also started her participation at the French Open / Roland Garros with a decisive victory. The 10th-seeded Russian player won her match versus Magdalena Frech (Poland) by 2-0 (7:5, 6:1). The match started evenly and after ten games the score was 5:5. However, Daria Kasatkina then made a break to win the first set, and that turned out to be the decisive moment in the match. Magdalena Frech had almost no resistance in the second set, which Daria Kasatkina won in just 41 minutes.

The next opponent of the Russian player will be Peyton Stearns (USA), who eliminated Lucija Ciric Bagaric (Croatia) after 2-1 (6:3, 6:7, 7:6). In the second set, 20-year-old Lucija Ciric Bagaric, making her Grand Slam main draw debut, saved five match points, and at the end of the third set she had an opportunity to serve for the win, but missed a break, after which Stearns recovered to tiebreak, which she took with 10-6 points.

However, the former leader in the world ranking and two-time quarterfinalist in the tournament, Angelique Kerber, dropped from Roland Garros. At the start, the German lost by 0-2 (4:6, 3:6) to Arantxa Rus (Netherlands). The main difference came from the greater finishing number of shots in favor of Arantxa Rus, which was 28 to just 14 for Angelique Kerber.
